Green Charter School of the Midlands Hosts South Carolina Indoor Regional

Green Charter School of the Midlands is a public charter school located in Irmo, South Carolina. Green Charter is new to the S3DA program as they just created a team this past Fall after receiving an S3DA Team grant. The school recently hosted the last Indoor 5-Spot Regional of the competition season for South Carolina S3DA. Archers from thirteen teams across the state met to compete in the event. A special moment happened when new archer, Emery Carver from Palmetto Center Seekers had an arrow bounce out on her target bale. She stepped up to shoot her makeup arrow and drilled the five-ring. All of the people on her end of the range cheered for her and brought a huge smile to that young lady’s face.

Emery’s mom Donna said, “My daughter is new to archery. When another archer happened to see my daughter’s arrow bounce out, there was no hesitation to say something. I honestly don’t think Emery would have said anything, so I was very impressed with the sportsmanship that was displayed and not to mention thrilled that Emery was able to get a five on the make up arrow.”

Parent Caroline Benton commented, “I really do not know much about archery, but I love going to the tournaments and talking with the other parents and archers. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. It really is a community of joy, or better yet, one big archery family. Everybody is so willing to help each other out. It never ceases to amaze me!”

South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock said, “Green Charter grew very quickly once the word had gotten out that they were the proud recipients of an S3DA Team grant. My hope is to be able to provide more schools and teams across the state with this opportunity to get them involved with the S3DA program. This was the first tournament experience for several archers, and they had a blast. It was nice to see the reactions from the new archers when they shot their first five or achieved their own personal goals. The future is bright for South Carolina S3DA as we anticipate well over 100 archers for the South Carolina Indoor State Championship at the Barr Road Sports Complex in Lexington, South Carolina.”

Amanda Miller, Head Coach of the Green Charter S3DA Team said, “I am very happy that Green Charter has given me the opportunity to introduce the S3DA program to our students. All of the archers have done a remarkable job this season. I love seeing how much their confidence and skill level grows each time they shoot.”
