This is my first year homeschooling my three youngest children, although I previously homeschooled my two oldest for about four years. We discovered the S3DA program through a friend and were excited to find several regional shoots within an hour of home. Archery is as much about mindset as it is about skill, and I wanted my children to experience that firsthand. Socially, they’ve connected with peers who love the outdoors and share similar interests. Emotionally, they’ve learned to process the ups and downs—whether it’s a tough day on the range or the challenges of learning new equipment and practicing consistently. S3DA fits perfectly into our homeschool routine. It offers a chance to volunteer, give back, and be part of a supportive community. For homeschoolers, it’s a great fit because of the mental discipline archery encourages, the opportunities to connect with other kids, and even the chance to teach others—something we’ve found is one of the best ways to learn.

"We have multiple families on our team that are homeschooled. We are a new team and have about forty kids. Of those 40, 13 are homeschooled! The homeschool kids fit right into the team environment. Within 2-3 practices, they are talking to everyone and have made new friends. We have a few that are still a bit shy, but I think that is overall just their personalities, which is the same for public school kids. Some kids and people are just timider and quieter. I think homeschool kids train at home a good bit more and I think that is due to the flexibility in their schedules. S3DA is a good option for homeschoolers, because they are able to go to all the archery shoots without it affecting their schooling. They don’t have to miss any of the state or nationals, even when it’s not local. They meet kids from all around the country that are their age, and this is more of a niche hobby for a kid, so it is great that they are able to connect with kids who share a hobby. Also, homeschool parents tend to make friends as well. They are usually my “go-to” parents when I need help as well."
"As a homeschooling mom of five, I wish we had found S3DA years ago. It’s been such a blessing – offering our kids the chance to be active, social, and recognized for their hard work in a supportive, family-focused environment. The sportsmanship, the sense of community, and the pride our kids feel is truly priceless. Yes, archery can be a financial commitment, but the life lessons and memories we’re building together make it more than worth it."
"We have many homeschool archers in our NASP, JOAD, and S3DA club. Socially, the kids and parents seem to enjoy shooting S3DA with others. For S3DA practice, we offer an afternoon option (usually just before public school recesses for the day). This seems to work best for homeschool families as they are able to get home before the evening. I believe all archery opportunities are good for homeschoolers. It provides activity, socialization, goal setting and motivation to improve. We have had a very successful homeschool program alongside our regular students for a long time."
"I have been homeschooling for 24 years. I started homeschooling my daughter in second grade and done this up until she graduated. My boys are currently being homeschooled. We learned about the S3DA program at a booth at the ASA tournament in London, Kentucky. Most local schools do not allow kids to participate in sports unless they are in public schools. So, I decided this was a great opportunity for our kids to be a part of something without belonging to an organization or a school. My kids have always been interactive with other kids, but it helped them to feel like they belonged to something and now they feel like they’re a part of something. S3DA fits in well with our homeschool routine. Tournaments run on the weekends, and we generally have practice after school hours to allow others to join us. My advice to any homeschool parent thinking about S3DA is that it’s a great program because it doesn’t matter what grade you are in, there is always an opportunity for you to participate."
“Our family has been homeschooling for 10 years, and we first learned about the S3DA program while attending the NFAA Vegas Shoot. What stood out to us were the extra opportunities for national competitions and the strong community support specifically geared toward youth archery. S3DA has helped all three of my children grow in perseverance, self-control, and goal setting – all within a positive and encouraging environment. It’s a wonderful organization created just for young people, and the possibilities it offers truly are endless.”
“I’m in a parent-led homeschool program, and being homeschooled gives me the freedom to practice archery more, especially when the range is less crowded! Archery is awesome because I still have the same fun experiences as other kids and meet people who love the same things I do. It’s a fun way to build self-discipline and challenge yourself. You don’t need the most expensive gear to enjoy it either. Just get out there and have fun shooting!"
“Our family has homeschooled from the very beginning, and S3DA has been an incredible part of that journey. The program has helped our kids grow in confidence, develop a strong work ethic, and build lasting friendships. As a coach, I’ve seen firsthand how well homeschool students fit into the team environment. Most of our archers are homeschooled, and they bring such a positive, encouraging attitude to practice. Their flexible schedules allow them to practice more consistently and improve their skills. S3DA offers the perfect blend of fun, structure, and opportunity. The best part is it never feels like just another class. It’s something they truly look forward to.”
“As a homeschooling family for over 16 years, finding an inclusive and supportive archery program felt nearly impossible – until we discovered S3DA. Two of our children, both with unique needs, have thrived socially, emotionally, and academically through this program. S3DA gave them confidence, community, and even college scholarship opportunities. The practices and tournaments fit perfectly into our homeschool lifestyle, and the life lessons they’ve learned are invaluable. If your child loves archery, don’t hesitate – S3DA can truly transform their journey.”

“As a homeschooler, S3DA has given me the flexibility to practice and travel for competitions while still keeping up with my studies. I do most of my schoolwork online, take co-op classes, and even go on field trips, but archery is one of my favorite parts of the week. After moving to South Carolina, it took two years to find a program for Olympic recurve until we discovered a local S3DA team. Now in my second season, I’ve made amazing friends, built strong connections across the state, and found a supportive community that makes every competition more fun and meaningful. I would encourage anyone interested to just go for it. Being a part of the archery community can feel intimidating, but they are very welcoming, and it will be a rewarding experience.”
“Our family has homeschooled for eight years, and all three of our kids – ages 10, 8, and 5 participate in archery. When we moved to Iowa, we discovered Flint River Archery Club through a friend, and S3DA turned out to be the perfect fit. With a passion for archery that began in California, our oldest had already competed in 3D tournaments, and S3DA gave us the chance to continue that journey with a strong community. The program has helped our children grow academically, especially with the extra math from scoring, socially by forming friendships across the country, and emotionally, as they’ve gained confidence and sportsmanship. S3DA fits beautifully into our homeschool lifestyle, with evening practices, weekend tournaments, and flexibility for travel. It’s a sport our whole family enjoys together, and we believe there’s no better youth archery organization than S3DA. It has truly been a blessing to our family, and we know that it can be for yours as well.”
“We started S3DA because my son wanted to build friendships and growth through new experiences. S3DA has given him more confidence, team building skills, math, science, and life skills that extend far beyond the archery range. He has earned awards and scholarship opportunities through S3DA. This program has become like an extended family, and we are truly thankful for the opportunities it has given our family.”
“I recently earned my certification to coach archery because I love interacting with children. I’ve taught homeschoolers sewing and pattern making for years, and I’ve truly enjoyed working with our growing team of young archers. Whether homeschooled or in traditional schools, the kids connect through archery and form real friendships that extend beyond the range. S3DA offers a unique opportunity for athletes to grow individually while also encouraging and uplifting one another as a team. It’s incredible to watch those bonds form and see how archery builds both skill and character.”
“We discovered S3DA at the Idaho State Fair, and our kids were hooked from the first shot! It’s been an incredible way for them to build confidence, learn discipline and safety, and make great friends. As homeschoolers, it fits perfectly into our routine—and now our whole family is involved. I’ve already encouraged several other homeschool families to join because we just love the program and the people!”
“Our family has been homeschooling for five years, and getting involved in S3DA has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. Archery has not only boosted our children’s confidence, but it’s also helped them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. From building math skills while scoring to learning leadership and sportsmanship on the range, S3DA truly fits into our homeschool life in a meaningful and motivating way. The flexibility of homeschooling allows us to shoot 3-5 times a week, and the welcoming team environment makes our kids feel right at home. We’ve made lifelong friendships, found a supportive community, and seen our children flourish in ways that extend far beyond the sport. Whether you’re brand new to archery or just curious, S3DA is a perfect fit for homeschool families looking to enrich their children’s education and personal development.”
“We started homeschooling in 2021, and discovering S3DA through a local Facebook group was a game-changer for our family. Archery has given my son not only a useful skill, but also a positive, encouraging environment where even the older kids lift each other up. It’s been an incredible fit for our homeschool routine and has offered more than traditional sports ever could — it truly feels like a big family. If you're a homeschool parent considering S3DA, I say give it a shot… you might just fall in love with it like we did.”
