Robert’s archery journey began as a family affair after he and his son’s started bow hunting. The owner of a local archery shop introduced them to tournament archery and encouraged them as well as Robert’s wife, Melissa, to give it a try. Soon after, archery became a family affair for the Carter family and they began traveling to local club shoots, state tournaments, and national level ASA events each year. Over the years, they have competed in ASA and NFAA events as well as the Lancaster Archery Classic. Robert began his coaching journey in 2017, when he was approached about helping a start-up S3DA team through a local archery club, and he later co-founded the Crossroads Archery S3DA Team alongside his son, Brendan. In 2018, Robert was appointed as the East TN Regional Coordinator and subsequently accepted the role of Tennessee S3DA State Coordinator in 2020. The TN program flourished under his supervision, and he was named the 2022 S3DA State Coordinator of the Year. In addition to his S3DA Coaches Certifications, Robert is a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Trainer. He has also earned his USA Level 2 Judge’s Certification and is a NFAA Certified National Judge. Robert is passionate about archery and the S3DA program and looks forward to sharing that passion with our next generation of archers.
